Bridgette "Wishy" Mudji, Balgo

 LANGUAGE Kukatja, English SKIN NAMPINTJIN OTHER INTERESTS • West Coast Eagles • Eating Goanna • Collecting boab nuts ABOUT BRIDGETTE “WISHY” MUDJI Bridgette Mudji (also Bridget Mutji) was born in Derby, Western Australia and raised in Balgo. Wishy’s mother (dec.) was born in the bush at Kinyu (Well 33) in Old Balgo. She was the sister of Agnes Gimme. Wishy’s father, artist Michael Mutji, is from Wiluna, W.A. and Wishy has two daughters and many grandchildren. One daughter, Keisha Nannup, is following in Wishy’s style of art. When she was young, Wishy loved looking at the shooting stars in the open, remote night sky and would always make a wish, hence her nickname “Wishy”. Wishy later stayed at St John of Gods’ Convent with the nuns in Broome and went to Catholic School there. In the 1980’s her work was selected by Swiss company Swatch to be used as their design and she received a trip to South Australia and $1,500.
