Evie Jungine, Broome
“I am Evie Jungine. I am a Ngikina woman who was born and raised in Broome, Western Australia, and have made my home in my Grandfathers’ country, here in Broome. My Mothers’ country was around Noonkanbah in the Central Kimberley, but I subsequently lived with my Father (dec.) who worked in Broome and Sunday Island.
I am an established local Broome artist and have been painting since 2004. My art revolves around Bush Tucker which I have learnt from my Mother; the Saltwater Country where I have spent my life, and places in the Kimberley that I have visited.
I paint mainly in acrylics on canvas or linen – either loose, on board or already stretched. All three are suitable for framing or the boards can sit on stands.
My inspiration comes from what I was taught by my Mother – about the country she came from and the Bush Tucker we eat. I paint these pictures to show and teach my children and grandchildren about their Aboriginal heritage and culture. I hope they pass down what my Mother has taught me to their children and grandchildren to come." ~ Evie Jungine
